The faculty author of the following support letter requested that his identity remain anonymous since he feared reprisals from the University of California’s large communist contingent. Perhaps someday the brave students, staff, and faculty of the University of California will not have to keep their true sentiments hidden. Thankfully, President Yudof and the UC Regents are working hard to make this dream a reality.
Dear UCMeP,
Please sign me up for any further announcements. I suggest we begin an ad-hoc vigilante squad to patrol the campus for undocumented workers, wild-eyed student radical types, Red professors and any other dangerous types. There are many [letter edited] organizations that might be mobilized to staff such a patriotic patrol! Just walk down the middle of Sproul any school day to see all the potential recruits!
Berkeley has a venerable tradition of this kind of intimidation and surveillance. Maybe we could get one of the Regents to patrol the campus on horseback, just as our illustrious imperialist leader General David Barrows used to. Or consider reviving the Better America Federation (BAF) of the 1920s and 30s to black-list all radical graduate students, undergrads and teachers. Maybe we could demand a restoration of the Loyalty Oaths and force all faculty to pledge allegiance to hard work of the UCOP! I’m 110% behind you!
Sincerely,
